Hi {{ first name | all }},

Welcome to the first Agency Robotics update.

Each person receiving this has played a crucial role in transforming Agency from concept to company. The 200+ exploratory conversations, site visits, and design sessions we've conducted with this talented network have given us the conviction to launch Agency. We are deeply grateful for your openness to share and your belief in our mission. Thank you.

As Agency comes to life, we will summarize our progress, obstacles, and asks in these updates. We have many mountains ahead and will need your continued enthusiasm, insight, and support.

Please treat this information as confidential.

Best,

Why Agency Robotics?

Human beings were not designed to sort packages all day.  Package sortation is exactly the type of dull, dirty, and dangerous task in which humans suffer and robots excel.

At Agency Robotics, we’re simplifying sortation with fleets of purpose-built mobile robots.

Who are we?

Our founding team has designed, built, and deployed over 100,000 mobile and sortation robots for leading warehousing and logistics companies.  We came together over a shared passion for robotic automation and a curiosity for exploring what happens when you combine the best aspects of Kiva Systems, 6 River Systems, Berkshire Grey, and Motional.

Founder Backgrounds

What are we building?

The Agency Bot is a capable, low-cost and scalable platform that shuttles and manipulates parcels, transporting them from inbound to outbound within a sortation hub. By providing an easy-to-deploy robotic platform, we augment existing labor forces, delivering massive efficiency gains to sortation labor and enabling more granular and configurable sorting capabilities.  We aim to be the simplest, fastest, and cheapest way for carriers to sort the 22 billion (and growing) parcels delivered each year in the US.

Why now?

Sortation is a pervasive challenge across global supply chains.  For parcel carriers specifically, sortation processes and technology have become critical to survival as four key trends converge in 2024:

  1. Rising labor wages and a shortage of available workers

  2. Rapid progress in robotic manipulation and mobility

  3. Competitive pressure from new technology-native entrants

  4. Continued 10% annual volume growth

Looking ahead, automation will play an increasingly vital role in the survival and differentiation of parcel carriers.  Agency enables carriers to compete in this automated future by dramatically reducing labor costs, increasing throughput, and enabling carriers to dynamically optimize their networks.

The value prop of robots only improves over time

What’s in a name?

agency (noun):

1. a collection of agents

2. the capacity of individuals to have the power to fulfill their potential

In the field of robotics, automation software is often referred to as an “agent”.  And, a collection of agents is typically referred to as, you guessed it, an agency.

The name goes a bit deeper though.

We believe that employee agency is the secret sauce to winning teams. Individual agency empowers employees to move fast, build awesome products, and come to work inspired. We are creating a culture where our employees have the agency to shape our company’s direction and their own careers. We believe that with agency at our core, we will collectively achieve ambitious goals and fulfill our potential.

Thus, Agency Robotics was born–robots powered by human agency.

Next steps

As our product vision solidifies, here is a rough overview of our plans for the next few months:

  • August - Refine product concept, continue customer development, finalize founder agreements, and prepare for fundraising

  • September - Transition all co-founders to full-time roles, kick off the pre-seed fundraise, and begin “official” product development

  • October - Close out pre-seed fundraise, locate office space, and start prototyping with hardware

Our ask of you

  • Customer Introductions - we’re always on the lookout for more customer feedback.  If you know someone working at a parcel carrier or with parcel sortation needs, please put us in touch.

If you have any questions, comments, or feedback, please reply to this email or reach out directly ([email protected]).
